Cindy Watters of Claremont, Illinois was elected to Department President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary office on June 8th, in Springfield, Illinois.
A life member of Olney Memorial Post #4226 in Olney, Illinois, she has served the organization in many capacities, including 6 years as President of the Auxiliary, serving as District #13 President in the last year of the Ladies Auxiliary, and going through the chairs at the Department level.
She joined on the eligibility of her father, Robert Gaston, who served in the Army Infantry during World War II.
Cindy graduated from Windsor High School in 1984 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Lake Land College and obtained certificates of Certified Nursing Assistant and Emergency Medical Technician (Ambulance) along with being a Red Cross CPR instructor. Those certificates expired soon after she married. Cindy worked for Casey’s General Stores, Inc. for 23 years with most as an Area Supervisor. Cindy currently works at Mid-American Air Center, located at the Lawrenceville-Vincennes airport. She does the payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and even fueling planes when needed. Cindy is a life member of the National Home.
Cindy and her husband of 39 years, John, have two sons, a daughter, two bonus kids, and four grandboys. When she isn’t working her paid job or volunteering at the Post, she loves to travel to South Carolina or Alabama to see her family. She also likes to travel to see the country and visit VFW posts.
